About the Role

Dream Builders ELC poco is seeking a dedicated Early Childhood Educator for their child care centre in Port Coquitlam, BC. This role involves nurturing the development and well-being of children in a supportive environment.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include bathing, diapering, and feeding infants and toddlers. You will develop and implement child-care programs that support and promote the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development of children. This role also involves synthesizing the overall situation of the children and communicating information to parents. You will lead activities such as telling or reading stories, teaching songs, and taking children to local points of interest. Encouraging children to express creativity through art, dramatic play, music, and physical activity is essential. You will guide and assist children in developing proper eating, dressing, and toilet habits, and prepare snacks and arrange rooms for lunch and rest periods. Observing children for signs of potential learning or behavioural problems and preparing reports for parents, guardians, or supervisors is also part of the role. Additionally, you will submit written observations on children to early childhood educators or supervisors, discuss progress and problems at staff meetings, and establish and maintain collaborative relationships with co-workers and community service providers. Planning and maintaining an environment that protects the health, security, and well-being of children is a continuous responsibility.

Requirements

Candidates must have a college, CEGEP, or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program of 1 to 2 years, or equivalent experience. Essential certifications include Emergency Child Care First Aid and CPR, and an Early Childhood Education (ECE) Certificate. A criminal record check and immunization records are required for security and safety. Experience is considered an asset. The role requires personal suitability traits such as punctuality, dependability, excellent oral communication, flexibility, reliability, and being a team player. The work involves repetitive tasks and is physically demanding, requiring attention to detail, bending, crouching, and kneeling.
